Let’s break it down:

  • Del (دل): It means heart or gut. Think of it like your emotional core.
  • -am (ام): This is the possessive suffix that means my.

so,

del-am (دلم) means my heart.

  • Bar-āt (برات): This is a shortened version of baraye (for) + to (you), so it means for you.

So, we have 'delam barat,' which means my heart for you. Romantic, right? But we’re not done yet—we need the verb to complete the sentence.

Persian sentences follow the SOV structure (Subject + Object + Verb). So, the verb comes at the end.

  • tangtight or wrenched

The verb here is a passive form of tang shodan (تنگ شدن), which means to feel tight or wrenched. It describes that tight feeling in your chest when you really miss someone.

  • shode (شده) means has become, so together we get delam barat tang shode (دلم برات تنگ شده) – literally, my heart has become tight for you, but really, it’s I miss you.
