Persian Expressions of Encouragement 🌸

In Persian, encouragement is everywhere. People encourage each other warmly, emotionally, and very openly. Sometimes even one simple Persian word can carry affection, pride, motivation, and tenderness all at once.

Today we will focus on two VERY important expressions:

■ Āfarin azizam

Persian: آفرین عزیزم
Transcription: āfarin azizam
Meaning: Well done, my dear

One of the MOST common Persian encouragement words is: āfarin.

You hear it:

✔ from parents
✔ from teachers
✔ from friends
✔ from grandparents
✔ even jokingly between close people

It means: well done, bravo, or good job.

And when we add: azizam (my dear), it suddenly becomes much warmer and softer emotionally.

■ Behet eftekhār mikonam

Persian: بهت افتخار میکنم
Transcription: behet eftekhār mikonam
Meaning: I’m proud of you

This sentence is VERY emotional in Persian. People often say it during emotional moments, achievements, support, encouragement, or love.

Let’s break it down 🌸

Part Meaning
behet to you
eftekhār pride / honor
mikonam I do

So literally, the structure is closer to:

“I do pride to you.”

But naturally, in English we say: “I’m proud of you.”

■ Bonus Persian Pattern: “ghol midam”

You may hear the word: behet in the beautiful Persian song:

🎵 “Behet ghol midam” 🎵

behet = to you
ghol = promise
midam = I give

So: behet ghol midam literally means:

“I give you a promise.”

→ “I promise you”

Now let’s look at the verb: dādan (to give)

Persian Transcription Meaning
میدم midam I give
میدی midi you give
میده mide he/she gives
میدیم midim we give
میدید midid you (plural/formal) give
میدن midan they give

You can now suddenly recognize MANY Persian patterns using: mi + verb root endings 🌸
