Week 3- Chapter 3

Dorood azizam! 🌸

Today we enter one of the sweetest parts of Persian 💌

You’ll learn how Persians give compliments and admiration:

— “You are beautiful” 💖
— “Your smile is beautiful” 😊
— “You are unique” ✨
— “You smell amazing” 🌸
— “There’s no one like you” 🥹

Don’t try to memorize everything at once.
Just choose 2 or 3 expressions you truly like and practice them with me 🌿

1. Kheyli Khoshgeli 🌸

kheyli = very
khoshgel = beautiful / pretty

So:

kheyli khoshgeli
= You are very beautiful

In Persian conversation, people often shorten sentences naturally.
You don’t always need to say “you are.”

2. Persian compliments often use “to” (you)

to fogholāde-i
= You are amazing

to behtarin-i
= You are the best

Notice the ending “-i”.
That ending often works like “are” in Persian.

3. Complimenting features 💛

labkhand-et ghashang-e
= Your smile is beautiful (gorgious)

cheshmāt ghashang-an!
= Your eyes are beautiful!

hamishe khoshboo-i
= You always smell good

4. Very Persian expressions ✨

ghorbun-et beram
Literally: “May I sacrifice myself for you.”
Meaning: I adore you deeply.

doret begardam
Literally: “I go around you.”
A very affectionate Persian expression.

These are emotional Persian expressions — warm, dramatic, loving 😊

Mini Practice ✍️

Fill in the blanks:

  1. kheyli __________ (You are so beautiful)
  2. to __________-i (You are extraordinary)
  3. labkhand-et __________-e (Your smile is beautiful)
  4.  __________ khoshboo-i (You always smell good)
  5. To __________ -i (You are the best)
Check answers
  1. khoshgeli
  2. fogholāde
  3. ghashang
  4. khoshboo
  5. behtarin

💡 Pronunciation Tip: The “gh” sound

You’ve probably noticed sounds like: gh in ghashang or fogholāde.

This sound doesn’t really exist naturally in English, so don’t worry if it feels strange at first 🌸

It comes from the back of the throat — softer and smoother than a hard “g”.

The good news?
The more you hear and repeat it, the more natural it becomes.

For now, just listen, imitate, and enjoy the rhythm of Persian 💛

📎 Extra Grammar Help for Curious Ones

Let’s understand one of the most important things in Persian: the verb “to be” 🌸

Just like English has:

“I am” → I’m
“You are” → You’re

Persian also has shortened everyday forms that people constantly use in speech.

Transcription Persian Meaning Short Form Example
hastam هستم I am -am man khoshgel-am 😊
hasti هستی You are -i to khoshgel-i
hast / ast هست He / She is -e un khoshgel-e
hastim هستیم We are -im mā khoshgel-im
hastid هستید You all are -in shomā khoshgel-in
hastand هستند They are -an unhā khoshgel-an

This is why you keep seeing endings like: -i, -e, -am, and -an in Persian 🌿

Reminder: Word Order in Persian 🎭

Persian is a bit like a suspenseful drama... the verb usually comes at the end 😄

So Persian often follows:

Subject + Object + Verb

Example:

To jazzāb hasti
= You charming are

Now let’s add “my”:

To jazzāb-e man hasti
= You are my charming one

Notice how Persian keeps adding pieces before finally revealing the verb at the end ✨

With gratitude and love,
Shirin 🌸
