نحوه گفتن دوست‌پسر و دوست‌دختر به فارسی | How to say boyfriend and girlfriend in Persian

How to Say “Boyfriend” and “Girlfriend” in Persian (Farsi)

How to Say Boyfriend and Girlfriend in Persian (Doostpesar & Doostdokhtar)

If you're learning Persian for love (or curiosity 👀), this lesson connects everything beautifully.

Let’s start with pronunciation — quick, clear, and practical.

🎥 Watch the 2-minute lesson:

Boyfriend in Persian

In Persian, boyfriend is:

دوستپسر
Doost-pesar

Doost (دوست) means friend.
Pesar (پسر) means boy or son.

Together, literally: friend + boy.

💡 In fast speech, the “t” in doost softens. You may hear:

Doostpesar → Doospesar

Say it three times out loud 😌
Doostpesar. Doostpesar. Doostpesar.

Girlfriend in Persian

Now let’s mirror the structure.

دوستدختر
Doost-dokhtar

Doost (دوست) = friend.
Dokhtar (دختر) = girl or daughter.

Literally again: friend + girl.

Two pronunciation details matter here:

■ The “t” in doost softens → Doosdokhtar.
■ The خ /kh/ in dokhtar is a throat sound — not an English “k.”

👇🏽 Let’s master the خ sound gently… 👇🏽

What We’ve Built So Far

👦 Pesar (پسر) = boy / son
👧 Dokhtar (دختر) = girl / daughter
🤝 Doost (دوست) = friend

Just like English combines “friend” with “boy” or “girl,” Persian does the same:

Boyfriend → Doost-pesar (دوستپسر)
Girlfriend → Doost-dokhtar (دوستدختر)

Useful Sentences

Doostdokhtar-e man Irani-ye.
My girlfriend is Iranian.

Doostpesar-e man Irani-ye.
My boyfriend is Iranian.

Man doostdokhtaram-o doost dāram.
I love my girlfriend.

Man doostpesaram-o doost dāram.
I love my boyfriend.

Why “Doost” Is Bigger Than You Think

The word Doost (دوست) is everywhere in Persian.

It doesn’t just mean friend. It appears in poetry. In spirituality. In daily speech. And most importantly…

It appears in how we say:

دوستت دارم
Dooset Dāram
“I love you.”

If you haven’t read the full explanation of how this phrase works and why it literally means “I have you as a friend,” read this next:

And if you want the passionate version, here’s the difference between Dooset Dāram and Asheghetam:

I’m in Love With You in Persian

And How Do You Say “Me Too”? 💬

من هم
Man ham
= Me too

In natural speech, it blends and sounds like:

Man ham  من هم→ Manam (منم)

So if someone tells you Dooset Dāram, you can simply reply:

Manam ☺
